Great camera for bird watchers – I owned a canon powershot sx30. It had an issue and could not be repaired. So I upgraded to this camera. I was worried about if it was easy to use as the sx30. I am a bird watcher and this camera doesn’t disappoint!

Doesn’t Live up to Reviews – I was super excited about this camera based on the 5-star reviews and Canon name. Unfortunately the pictures are blurry no matter what setting it’s in and it absolutely does not take pictures at night (no night setting). Returning and continuing search.

Its Good But Not a Significant Improvement over SX60 – Long time user of Powershots SX 40 SX60 and SX70 and was expecting more from this upgrade to the SX60 – clearly the 4K video and macro closeup capabilities are improved and for me that’s enough to justify keeping it as I have an old SX60 for a second camera and even the SX40 works fine – just noisy. I have taken some stunning 4K video recently and of course it takes the best photos in sunlight as in the example. I expect the SX70 to be just as robust as the others – never any problems. The lack of a hot shoe is the most obvious head scratcher as I use external lighting and microphones alot and it has an external mic plug like the SX60. I found this cool stick on cold shoe that works fine for me – just stick it on and use your external accessories (Impact Adhesive-Backed Accessory Shoe (2-Pack) https://amzn.to/2Y2ClRQ ) , but if you were using synched flash with the hot shoe you are out of luck. I have posted a detailed hour-long review on YouTube that tells you everything about these cameras good and bad

Versatile Camera but M doesn’t really mean Manual – Update: After more than 3,000 photos, I am discovering some weaknesses. First, the wifi connection for downloading images to a pc is troublesome, and doesn’t close nicely, requiring a reboot or going in to task manager on windows to stop the service before being able to reopen. It doesn’t have a “minimize” feature, so that is a nonstandard app window. Also, connection to wifi is problematic, even with a good wifi system. I’ve had far superior performance with wifi sd cards. The software looks like it was never finished, and still should be labeled beta.

Solid bridge camera – I wanted to leave a review because I almost didn’t buy this camera after reading the other reviews and that would have been a shame. I had the Canon SX60 but during a visit to the swamp it fell in the water and stopped working. I was heartbroken because I loved that camera. I almost bought that model again but thought I would take a chance on the newer SX70. I have been using it for several days now on my birding forays. Like any camera, I had to get used to it, but I made the transition fairly easily from the SX60.
