Dirty but works – Everything worked on the camera it was just dirty and had some dirt on the mirrors and the battery door had a chunk missing although it still locked close

Quality is much worse than advertised. – I purchased this as a gift, and was disappointed when it came. It was absolutely filthy, and it had several broken pieces, i paid more to get it in the “like new” condition, yet unfortunately that is absolutely not what i received. It also came with a dirty old camera strap that was mickey mouse, but it was so grimy and falling apart i couldnt give it with for the gift.

I understand that it is used, but the description of “unnoticeable” markings on the outside is not true. I’m going to buy film and batteries this weekend to see if it actually works, so we’ll see if it was worth it.

Great camera – I have used 5 films on that camera by a month and I love it. I bought it as a tribute to a soviet SLR camera Zenit 12xp I used to shoot at few years ago, and this Canon AE-1 gives a better result. Even though it is almost entirely automatic (keep it mind that it wouldn’t work without a battery and isn’t happy when you use manual aperture), it feels like an old fully manual camera. The lens create a nice bokeh, but again, keep in mind that with a film of ISO ~400 and with a minimum possible exposure time 1/1000 sec it will automatically close the aperture to ~f/8 when you are outdoor in a sunny day. Overall, I don’t think it is a good camera for studying photography, because it is supposed to be not manual and people get lazy, but it doesn’t mean the camera is bad. Actually, I feel very happy about this purchase. Maybe it is due to the fact that the camera arrived in a very (“like a brand new” very) good shape, although the film advancing mechanism doesn’t work sometimes (see the latter photo attached to this review) – but it happened just twice and on the first roll only.
