Great Product – Weak Support – I did lots of research in the DIY market and found ARLO to be the best. I found the product to be excellent. Setup was easy (once I turned off my VPN) and the quality is very good.

Better than expected, no base station required, needs $2.99/mo subscription to function properly. – Considered the Reolink 4K camera (the cheapest) ,the Ring HD 1080p spotlight camera (most expensive), and this Arlo Pro 4 2K (mid price). Didn’t like the Reolink review comments on the phone app and although the Reolink camera may be the better (5K), it does require an additional Ethernet connected device or a monthly subscription for best performance. The Ring has less resolution (HD). The next generation Ring has 2K video, but is $150 more than the Arlo, so I got the Arlo. I’m only using this camera at night between sundown and sunrise. Love the Arlo app. Turned the spotlight off to make it less obvious that there is a security camera at my front door. It’s activated by motion of pets, people, and vehicles in the customized detection zone at times you want it to be active. Uses about 3% of battery per night with 15 or so videos each about 15 seconds long. Takes 4 hours to charge the battery 50%. Phone gets a notification delayed about 15 seconds after a detection event. Can snap a photo of a frame of the video, and zoom in on it on the phone. Arlo sells a separate base station with micro SD storage, but, without the monthly subscription, many camera features do not function. This is absurd. Took off 1 Star because the product definition did not mention that many camera features will not function without paying a $2.99/month subscription after the trial period is over. Wish it had better camera resolution (like 4K), but new Arlo Ultra Pro with 4K is $150 more than the Pro 4 plus requires a $150 base station to use the new model plus a $14.99/mo subscription! Too much money for me, at this point. Better than expected performance for a $160 security camera. For the money, $2.99/mo for one camera, this is a good buy in my opinion. Arlo was once owned by Netgear until 2016, fyi.

Good video quality, easy set up, great features, room for improvement with app/connection – Install was simple, video quality is great, and it comes with a lot of helpful customizable features. Only critique is that the time delay between the camera detecting motion and the notification being sent to my phone is significant, up to 10 seconds sometimes. If it were a trespasser or animal, the time it would take me to see the notification, navigate to the app, and connect to the microphone to scare off the animal or speak to the person would take about 30-60 seconds depending on connection. One other critique is you only have the option to stop recording once motion has no longer been detected, or to record for a fixed amount of time once movement is detected. I think it would be beneficial to have a setting in which the camera records during motion detection AND set a fixed amount of time to continue recording after motion has stopped. I think 4/5 stars is appropriate and I would recommend to a friend.

Good cameras terrible automated support – Had difficulty connecting cameras to internet service. They require 2.4ghz and not the normal 5g network. After upgrading my modem to accommodate the required 2.4ghz I still was not able to connect. I contacted the chat line for help and was told my purchase did not qualify for any support. So I boxed the cameras and returned them.

Camera is great. Motion detection, not so much – The camera is great. It has great features, such as motion and noise detection, night vision, a siren, and a quite powerful built-in flood light…

Great picture, install easy, but it makes you think it won’t be enough bandwidth – I had bought an Arlo Essential before and I ended up returning it because it said the wifi signal was ‘weak” or “poor”. I decided to give it another try with the Pro4 with the Black Friday deals. This time I moved my wifi point to the garage to get a better signal. It still said the bandwidth was “poor” but I didn’t give up. I have had no interruptions, and the picture is clear. I don’t know why it said “poor” if this is the case. It could make a person think they shouldn’t be installing it if the signal is poor. But I’ve been using it for a week, get notifications regularly and a crystal clear picture. Still trying to see if I can minimize the notifications as I live in a condo on the main entry road and lots of motion/cars/people. I got it so I can see where delivery trucks go when I get notification of a delivery but nothing showed up. I can follow where the truck went to see where it was delivered by mistake. Also, I can watch for people coming to visit before they get to the door and make the dogs go crazy.
