Quite possibly the most annoying camera on the market – If you can at all use a Power-Over-Ethernet camera, do so. WiFi cams are the most annoying devices on planet earth, and this model is no exception. The picture quality is fine, the motion detection is fine (though not nearly as fine-tunable as their previous models), the night vision quality is fine. The interface, as many users have noted, is nothing short of infuriating. I set this camera up plugged into a router, and it was straight-forward and relatively painless. As soon as I relocated the camera to its permanent position, everything became hit-or-miss. It initially didn’t connect to the network for awhile, then after two restarts, connected flawlessly. Changing settings via the Amcrest SmartHome app is similarly hit-or-miss, sometimes saving changes made to settings, sometimes not. I haven’t been able to make the email function work yet, the app randomly logs my devices out, and sometimes the SmartHome app on my iPad shows a clear, real-time picture while the app on my iPhone, sitting RIGHT NEXT to my iPad, tells me my device is offline. Listen, I understand WiFi cameras aren’t the most flawless technology, and a lot depends on a well-functioning network, but I think we can all agree that the on-again off-again habits of this particular model are inherent and insidious. If you’ve seen “Man vs Bee” with Rowan Atkinson, you already have some insight into what kind of relationship you can expect with this camera. Honestly, I’m ready to bore through the side of our house, then jack-hammer through our sidewalk AND driveway to run 300 feet of Ethernet cable to avoid using this awful piece of technology. By golly, I’ve almost talked myself into rating the whole shebang 1 star, but in true technology fashion, it is currently working…but for how long?

Amcrest has another winner! – I was happy to be able to evaluate the ASH43-W. I had already been using an ASH22-W in my garage, so I was anxious to see how much difference there was between 2 and 4 megapixels. I decided to put the ASH43-W in place of the current ASH22-W. I have another unattached garage that I am going to mount the ASH22-W.

Beautiful design, solid build, and excellent functionality! – I would like to start by stating that I REALLY love the design and build quality of the Amcrest cameras and other products. I’ve always been a huge fan of theirs, and have recently started to purchase their products and been very happy with them, I currently have a dome POE camera, an analog bullet cam, a keyless door lock, and now this Wifi Bullet cam from the Smart Home Series. I can’t express how much I love the look of it. The build quality is also second to none. I have some other camera’s I bought from Best Buy as part of a NVR package, and the build quality on those is absolutely horrendous. They’re flimsy and made of cheap plastic. I wish I’d purchased an Amcrest system instead, but lesson learned. I think I will slowly start replacing those other cams with the Amcrest brand.
